Jay Ratinoff is here to bring a fresh take on the sound of 80s rock with his self titled debut album. This is an album full of songs which contain massive bass, big guitars, and monstrous drums. Notable 80s bands it takes plenty of influence from includes The Cure and Gangs Of Four.
“The inspiration behind the songs came from wanting to take a different direction in my music. I wanted to remove the safety net and try something I hadn’t done before.”- Jay Ratinoff
“Run Away” and “I Need You” both take retro influence while bring a fresh soundscape to the table. Both song offers plenty of fresh and unique hooks. The electronic backdrop sounds massive and impactful. “Faith” is Ratinoff’s personal favorite song on the album. “I wrote it in one of the worst and darkest moments of my life. In a way I feel like the song saved my life. It was written and recorded in the same day at one of my producer’s Aldo Munoz studio, Wes Sharon did the final production on it, when I heard the final mix, it was like all that negativity that I felt was shattered.”- Jay Ratinoff
Previously, Ratinoff was a Latin pop musician known as Joaquin Torres. However he switched gears in 2019, as he got baptized with the surname of his mother. As Ratinoff claimed, “Right before I took a trip to Mexico to write music, I had my baptism. It was important for me to be baptized again and turn the page on the next chapter. It was a rebirth of a lot of things.” This is a debut album which contains a contagious spirit, watch the music video for "Fath" below.
